Neutropenia patients must prevent infections to stay safe. Certain precautions that are to be taken include:
- Proper hygiene. Washing your hands now and then, practicing rigorous dental care, such as regular tooth brushing and flossing.
- Limiting contact with sick people.

- Disinfecting cuts and scrapes and covering them with a bandage
- Instead of using a razor, use an electric shaver
- Do not touch animal waste and, when possible, avoid touching infants’ diapers
